Dressed for Adventure - Vol. 4

A little (well, not sooo little, to be honest) while ago, we gave you an update of the design-process of our main-character Coria - after three previous devlog-articles, we want to finish the design-journey in this one. So sit back and let me tell you, how Coria got her final look.

After a few iterations, our character-designer Maren narrowed Coria's design down to these four options - we told you about these in the last update. And please don´t be irritated by her braided hair - in this update, we told you why and how Coria got her final hairdo.

Basically we knew that we preferred #1 - the red top without anything underneath seemed just a bit too uncomfortable. Still, there was a bit of room for improvement. Enter our good friend asymmetry! After all, asymmetry often makes designs more complex, more interesting to look at. Just ask this guy...

While we didn´t want to go full-on Square-Enix, we knew we needed a bit of asymmetry in Corias design, even if it wouldn't be really reflected in her sprite. And there is a certain appeal to the sleeveless look after all. So the solution was rather obvious in hindsight: Coria is an adventurer. Adventure is dangerous, things happen and especially if you´re new in the adventuring business, you might get a few scratches every now and then.

So in some as-of-yet unseen event, Coria got a little hurt somewhere below her right shoulder, so she tore of the fabric of her left sleeve and tied it arount her upper arm - problem solved! Was it a big wound? Probably not. Does she still need that improvised bandage? Probably not as well. But we like to think she considers it a good-luck-charm now. And anyway - now Coria´s outfit looks cool, offers the much-coveted asymmetry and even tells a bit of a story!

And here she is! Red top, torn sleeve, makeshift bandage, short hair, brown pants with these rather useless, but also cool-looking belt-thingies, boots and a sharp rapier in her hand. So what do you all think about her design? Did you prefer one of the others? Do you have any more questions? Please let as know in the comments! And of course: If you haven't tried it yet for whatever reason, give the playable demo a try! Oh, and if you haven't done so yet, why not follow us on twitter?
